Farmboy Fine Arts Inc. May 2010 Newsletter

May 2010

Design Trend • Purism

We are turning to Purism as self-therapy. The influences of creative design for this trend come from our inner selves, skin colours, soft monochromatic hues, organic sculptural shapes, super lightweight aesthetics, stretching/elasticising forms, transparencies, layering of materials – lots of layers. The innovation-minded are seeking the pure quality of the naked, decoration-free form and a desire for truth, purity and authenticity. A return to values such as restraint, sense of proportions, humility and modesty are now part of our design agenda. It is about detoxifying form and exposing its inherent qualities. A recurring theme of soft, blurring effects in photography – perhaps a mist, a cloud, layers of transparency.

For Farmboy this can mean the layering of watercolour textures, it can be a collection of vibrant botanicals or simply the use of pastel colouring in our illustrative compositions. Purism is a marriage between nature and innovation.

Featured Medium • ADA

ADA (Acrylic Digital Art) is consistently one of our most popular products. An alternative to traditional framed photography, ADA is sleek, refined, sharp, and always exceeds expectations. Often imitated although never duplicated, Farmboy Fine Arts has been a pioneer in the field of acrylic digital art.

Featured Farmboy Artist • Joseba Ibarra Amor

Featured Artist Joseba Ibarra Amor first came to Farmboy in 2008, bringing with him a fantastic collection of contemporary Spanish architecture. When we think of Spain we often think Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque but Amor invites us to see a different, exciting side of the country’s architecture that shouldn’t be missed.

Farmboy Staff Picks • Tristane Nelson

We asked Farmhand Tristane Nelson, our Client Services Manager here at Farmboy, to choose one of her favourite images from our Stockyard collection and tell us what she likes about it.

Who is the artist?
Mitch Catanzaro, MLC.400.00002

Why do you like it?
When I first saw this image I thought it was insects in rain, then soon realized it was icicles in branches. The palette is so wintery and I have a soft spot for lavender. For some reason it makes me feel nostalgic.
