Design Trend Pixelnation

Pixelnation is an old school throw back to lo-fi versus hi-fi, Atari graphics in 56K rendered up to the size of a building or transferred into a complex algorithm of generative code.

We have begun to bridge the gap between design drawing and rapid prototyping. Now more than ever we have the chance to design objects in a virtual space, and through motion capture we can input that information into a machine that manufactures a 3-D rapid prototype ready made for production. We have the ability to create patterns in illustrator and move them immediately to Laser cutters or C&C machines to realize them for guestroom art, public space work or sculptures within hotels.

To design in Pixelnation, take your analogue content, whether that be a hand drawn illustration, a comic book, or a CG image, and break it up into millions of colors, forms, displays and mediums and then transfer this onto any of our substrates of choice!

Featured Medium SADA

SADA, also known as Sintra, is one of our most durable mediums. Its perfect for headboards, corridors, niches or any high traffic areas. As one of our most versatile art mediums it can be cut into any shape or size specific to your requirements. SADAs superior material is especially well suited for spas, pool areas, and anywhere there is moisture not only is it vibrant but also extremely easy to clean!

Farmboy Back in the Saddle

After some much needed R&R over the holidays Farmboy is back in the saddle! We started off the year with our annual corporate retreat, and this year were lucky enough to spend some time at Poets Cove Resort on South Pender Island (thanks to Exposure Travel!). It was a great chance to regroup and get focused on the new year ahead. For a glimpse of all that we enjoyed on the trip, check out our video here.

Featured Farmboy Artist Eydis S. Luna Einarsdottir

This months featured artist is award-winning photographer Eydis Einarsdottir, who has been with Farmboy since May of 2007. She is a transplant from Iceland, with a 15-year layover in the USA where she earned her BA in Photography at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA.

Shortly after immigrating to Vancouver in the spring of 2005 Eydis opened a photography studio, and has made a name for herself as a skilled commercial photographer with assignments including advertising, editorial, products, jewelry, fashion and celebrity. In her spare time she continually works on her fine art & landscapes, enjoying the visual beauty of British Columbia.

Both her commercial and fine art photography draws the viewer in with aesthetic lighting and simplistic composition, influenced by Icelands stunning landscapes and light.

Farmboy Props

This months Farmboy Props go to the Farmboy team! Here we are at our corporate retreat and the top of Mount Norman on South Pender Island. Check out that view!

Farmboy Staff Picks Ariel Grue Lee

We asked Farmhand Ariel Grue Lee, our Project Manager here at Farmboy, to choose one of her favourite images from our Stockyard collection and tell us what she likes about it.

Who is the artist?
Maxime Boisvert, MXB.000.00012

Why do you like it?
I like it for its painterly texture and steely color palette. The horizontal transition from light to dark, reminiscent of ombre fabric, has texture so rich that I can almost feel the paint peeling away from the wall and the chill of the concrete. It is serene yet menacing, stoic yet suggests action. With the strong horizontal line across the frame I can imagine an Exacto blade being pulled across a canvas. Subtle but powerful, this image would make a great feature piece and would be sure to start conversation in any room.
